Alibaba.com Q1 2010 Profit Up 34% YoY

Chinese B2B e-commerce firm Alibaba.com (1688.HK) has announced its unaudited financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2010, with revenue reaching RMB 1.22 bln, up 49.3% YoY.
Revenue from Alibaba's international marketplace increased to RMB 718.9 mln in the period, representing a 42.2% increase year-on-year and a 4.6% increase quarter-on-quarter. Revenue from Alibaba's China marketplace was RMB 406.1 mln in the period, a 34.9% increase year-on-year and flat from the fourth quarter of 2009. Other revenue was RMB 95.5 mln in the first quarter of 2010, representing a 792.7% increase from the same period last year and a 474.9% increase from the fourth quarter of 2009. The increase, both year-on-year and quarter-on-quarter, was mainly due to the first-time contribution by HiChina in the period.
Net income attributable to equity holders rose 33.8% YoY to reach RMB 330 mln.
In Q1 2010, Alibaba.com's total number of overseas registered users increased 45.9% YoY and 8.6% QoQ to 12.58 mln, compared to 8.62 mln for Q1 2009 and 11.58 mln in Q4 2009; total registered users increased 24.8% YoY and 5.3% QoQ to 50.25 mln, compared to 40.25 mln in Q1 2009 and 47.73 mln in Q4 2009; and paid users increased 36.8% YoY and 7.1% QoQ to 658.701, compared to 481,575 in Q1 2009 and 615,212 in Q4 2009. Of total paid users, China TrustPass members grew by 32.7% YoY and 8.1% QoQ to 541,677, compared to 408,185 in Q1 2009 and 501,316 in Q4 2009.
As of March 31, 2010, HiChina had 2 mln domain names in service. Total paying members for other non-domain name services was around 228,000.
