Shanghai Authorities Investigate TV Shopping Complaints
National Business Daily, 5/13/10
The Shanghai Administration of Industry and Commerce (SHAIC) has begun monitoring sales of 3C products (digital cameras, video cameras and mobile phones) by six TV and online shopping firms in response to a recent rash of consumer complaints. SHAIC announced yesterday that it discovered 23 orders of defective goods, including 15 shipments of 3C products.
Seven Star Online Shopping Limited, Acorn Network Technology Development Co., Ltd., Honglan International Trade Co., Ltd. (Rbtvs.com) and Oriental CJ Shopping Channel (www.ocj.com.cn) were all found to carry defective products under brand names including Aigo, Alcatel and Casio.
According to SHAIC, offending companies were found to have committed three major violations. During TV sales, products were overhyped and were not genuine articles; second, products lacked the name of the product, manufacturer, or the factory's address; third, the responsible sales agent was not clearly identified, failing to ensure after-sales service.
In response to SHAIC's inspection report, Oriental CJ said it had halted sales of the goods immediately upon notification.
