MediaTek, Handset Vendors Sign Anti-Malware Pacts

Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company MediaTek has signed agreements with a number of handset manufacturer and design house partners pledging not to pre-install any malware or automatic fee-deducting mobile applications on its handsets. Any firm found doing so will be boycotted by MediaTek. MediaTek has already begun signing letters of intent with its clients and partners, including manufacturers Lenovo (0992.HK), Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment, Haier, Gionee, Konka (200016.SZ, 000016.SZ), TCL and Ningbo Bird (600130.SH), as well as design houses (IDH) Longcheer, SIMCom, HuaQin, AGold and Dewav.
