CCTV.com to Merge into CNTV
Netease Tech, 5/05/10
CCTV.com deputy general manager Xia Xiaohui has disclosed that CCTV.com and its online video site China National TV (CNTV) will merge on May 30, at which time CCTV.com will redirect to CNTV.cn. Xia said that, following the merger, CNTV will focus on major coverage of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.
Since its late-2009 launch, CNTV has continued to open additional channels, and began hosting video content that was originally offered on CCTV.com. At present, CNTV offers a number of channels for news, finance, sports, arts and culture, films, television dramas, science programming and documentaries.
Regarding the difference between the two sites, Xia said that while the majority of CCTV.com content comes from CCTV, CNTV draws from other sources of content in addition to CCTV, including the provincial satellite TV channels, overseas programs, original content produced by the editorial team, and user-uploaded content.
