Rumor: Kingsoft Cuts Cooperation with Google

DoNews, 5/04/10

An industry source has reported that the partnership between Chinese software developer Kingsoft (3888.HK) and Google may have ended.

The website for what was originally the "Google Kingsoft Joint Edition PowerWord" dictionary product has been redesigned, with the new version titled only "Kingsoft PowerWord 2010 beta." Google's logo is missing from the site, and the Google and Kingsoft co-branded version of PowerWord is no longer available for download. The translation engine in the beta edition of Kingsoft PowerWord 2010 no longer contains any logos or text mentioning Google.

Kingsoft has given no explanation for the changes as of yet.

Editor's Note: A source inside Kingsoft confirmed that the company's partnership with Google has ended, and that Kingsoft will no longer provide downloads for the Google-Kingsoft edition of PowerWord. The new version of Kingsoft PowerWord abandons Google's translation engine in favor of a new engine developed by Kingsoft.
