China Mobile Submits TD-LTE Plans to MIIT

At the 3rd Annual Forum on LTE Technology Development Strategy in Beijing, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Research Institute director Bill Huang said that detailed plans for TD-LTE networks, terminals, and budget, have been finalized and submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for review. In the initial large-scale testing phase, scheduled to begin in the second half of 2010, at least 5,000 TD-LTE terminals will be deployed in each of three cities, for a total of 15,000 terminals in all. Large-scale terminal testing will focus on data cards; large-scale TD-LTE handset testing is set to begin next year. Huang declined, when asked, to reveal what the testbed cities would be.
