Aigo Sues Int'l PC Makers for Patent Violation
Beijng Times, 4/27/10
Chinese consumer electronics company Aigo has brought suit against HP China in the Beijing No.1 Intermediate People's Court, alleging that three HP notebooks use a SATA (Serial-ATA) to USB Plus connector that infringes upon Aigo's patents. Aigo is seeking RMB 1 mln in damages; a spokesperson for the company said that it will bring a similar suit against Toshiba in a Xi'an court in the near future.
Aigo lawyer Lu Ersong said that the company had applied to China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) for a patent on its USB Plus to SATA connectors on April 17, 2006, and had received the patent on February 3 of this year. After receiving the patent, Aigo sent legal notices to a number of international computer makers, including Dell, Toshiba, Sony, HP, and Samsung, demanding that they cease all patent infringement.
HP China issued a statement last night saying that it would be proactive in defending itself against what it claimed were baseless accusations. A spokesperson for Toshiba China said that the company had yet to receive notification of any lawsuit, and would not comment on the current case.
