China Business News, 4/26/10
Fu Chengjun, chairman of Shanda Interactive's (Nasdaq: SNDA) new travel company, Yunyou Tiandi, recently disclosed that Shanda's travel business will not follow traditional models, but instead use cloud-based services to offer integrated virtual and real-life travel experiences.
Fu said the company will provide an online travel community as well as offline vacation products and related services. According to Fu, Yunyou Tiandi will not operate on traditional services such as lodging, transportation, e-commerce or tours, but will utilize new Internet and M2M technologies and operations for its "Cloud Travel" brand of interactive travel services. Offline tourists will be able to interact, communicate and play games with their virtual counterparts. The service is expected to debut this year.
Fu added that Yunyou Tiandi will cooperate with travel agencies, scenic destinations, holiday hotels, e-commerce travel websites and other companies in the industry chain to establish online presences and partner with other businesses offline, and will integrate Shanda's active user base and games, literature, music, and film and television content platforms.
