Sohu IT, 4/22/10
At the "2010 Leadcore Customer Conference" held in Shanghai on April 22, He Zhili, vice general manager of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) terminal division, said that as of April 18, 2010, a total of nearly 6.99 mln TD-SCDMA terminals have been sold, including 3.44 mln handsets and 2.48 mln wireless wireline phones. The share of sub-RMB 2,000 handsets, which are aimed at expanding the mid- to low-end market, has risen to 43.5%, while sub-RMB 1,000 handsets account for 18.5% of sales. As of March, a total of 119 TD-SCDMA terminals had hit the market.
Editor's Note: According to separate Netease Tech reports, He Zhili said that China Mobile has again re-clarified its 2010 TD-SCDMA subscriber development targets. He said China Mobile intends to add at least 11.5 mln new TD-SCDMA subscribers, and will strive for 15 mln new subscribers. As of the end of 2009, according to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China Mobile had 5.1 mln TD-SCDMA subscribers, so the addition of 11.5-15 mln new subscribers would bring China Mobile's 2010 year-end total to approximately 16.5 to 20 mln TD-SCDMA subs.
He predicted that 2010 will see as many as 150 new TD-SCDMA terminals of all types released. China Mobile will work to release RMB 1,000 OPhones in the second half of the year as well. China Mobile will also expand the number of TD-SCDMA phones that support CMMB, placing emphasis on requirements for inclusion of CMMB mobile TV capability in low-price handsets. China Mobile also aims to accelerate the release of WAPI/Wi-Fi-compatible mid- and high-end TD-SCDMA handsets.
