SARFT Begins Investigating IPTV Operations

Sohu IT, 4/20/10

According to an informed source, in order to standardize IPTV pilot project operations and strengthen its ability to supervise and ensure the safety of broadcasts, China's State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) issued a notice on April 12, ordering all provincial broadcasting authorities to conduct an inventory of irregular IPTV operations. Regions that have launched IPTV services without prior approval by SARFT will be investigated and forced to end IPTV operations by a specified date. Sources said that the inventory of IPTV operators is expected to be complete by April 21, at which point the campaign will enter a substantive investigation and punishment phase.
