Rumor: Lenovo Acquires Brazilian PC Maker
Xiaoxiang Morning Herald, 4/08/10
A senior industry source has said that Chinese computer maker Lenovo (0992.HK) has completed its acquisition of Brazilian PC manufacturer Positivo.
The source, who is close to Lenovo, further revealed that Xia Li, Lenovo's GM for the China region, has been sent to Brazil and will take full responsibility for the handover process. A spokesperson at Lenovo's public relations department did not directly deny the news of the acquisition yesterday, and confirmed that Xia Li had been sent to Brazil at the end of last year, adding that the total price of the acquisition is still unknown.
Lenovo's plans to acquire Positivo were revealed in 2008, but the deal was delayed by Positivo's decision to raise its asking price, and later by the global financial crisis.
Editor's Note: Chinese IT portal Tencent Tech quoted Chen Danqing, Lenovo's brand and corporate communications director for the Greater China region, as saying that Lenovo had not acquired Positivo, and that Xia Li had not gone to Brazil to oversee the handover. Chen added that Lenovo has no plans to acquire Palm, as had also been rumored.
