MIIT Announces February 2010 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its February 2010 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:
Telecom operating revenues were RMB 69.6 bln (USD 10.2 bln), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 140.6 bln (USD 20.6 bln), up 6.0% over the same 2-month period of 2009. Core services accounted for RMB 133.2 bln of the cumulative total, up 5.0% YoY.
Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 7.9 mln in February, with mobile subscribers growing by approximately 9.4 mln to over 766.0 mln, and fixed-line subscribers dropping by 1.5 mln to approximately 310.3 mln. Broken down by traditional fixed-line and PHS, the PHS subscriber base declined by more than 1.3 mln subs to 42.3 mln, while traditional (i.e. non-PHS) fixed-line subscribers decreased by 164,000 to 267.9 mln.
A total of over 137.69 bln SMS messages were sent during the first 2 months of 2010, a 4.7 % increase YoY.
Broadband added 1.7 mln new registered users in February to reach a total of 106.8 mln nationwide. Dial-up added 164,000 users, raising the total dial-up user base to 7.3 mln.
