Taobao Announces Transaction Data Services
Netease Tech, 3/31/10
Chinese C2C and B2C e-commerce site Taobao has announced that its transaction data is now publicly available. Two days ago, Taobao also released a RMB 300/month data package targeted at Taobao vendors.
Taobao's publicly released data includes three tiers of products: raw data, standard products, and high level individualized services. Raw data is provided for free. The standard products provide simple data analysis, most of which is done by Taobao's system. The high level individualized services are provided both by Taobao and third-party analytical organizations, and take into account the vendor's specific needs, while providing recommendations for improving the vendor's e-commerce operations.
Zeng Ming, chief strategy officer for Taobao parent Alibaba Group, said that data has become part of Alibaba's 10-year strategic plan.
Taobao business client platform division general manager Yu Ce said that Taobao's open data services are not under pressure to achieve profitability in the short term.
