China's MIIT Releases February 3G Subscriber Totals

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released statistics indicating that as of February, China had a total of 16.06 mln 3G subscribers, with 1.52 mln new subscribers added over the course of the month. China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) had 6.86 mln TD-SCDMA subscribers, adding 790,000 new subscribers over the month; China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) had 5.14 mln subscribers on its CDMA2000 EV-DO network, adding 320,000 new subscribers; China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) had 4.06 mln subscribers on its WCDMA network, adding 410,000 new subscribers.
As of the end of February, China Mobile's commercial TD-SCDMA network covered 238 cities; Unicom's commercial WCDMA network covered 335 cities; and China Telecom's CDMA2000 network covered 342 cities, 2,055 counties, and more than 6,000 townships.
