China Mobile's Cloud Platform to Develop Mobile Search
Communications World Weekly, 3/29/10
Sun Shaoling, deputy director of the enterprise support laboratory at China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Research Institute (CMRI), recently announced that China Mobile will officially release version 1.0 of its BigCloud ("Da Yun") cloud computing service by the end of May. Version 1.0 will offer more integrated system software than last year's version 0.5, particularly a more complete open platform. A source close to China Mobile said the product will first be used internally, and its Internet Data Centers (IDCs) and economic management analysis system are expected to be the product's first early adopters.
China Mobile began R&D on cloud computing in 2007, and announced its BigCloud Project v0.5 for internal use two years later, first deployed for data mining, system evaluation and search purposes.
CMRI's BigCloud project aims to develop a parallel data mining platform, develop evaluations and optimization for each cloud computing platform, establish an experimental platform for cloud technology-based mobile Internet business data storage and handling, and develop a search engine for the information-dense mobile Internet of the future.
