Dell Denies Rumors of China Exodus

Oriental Morning Post, 3/26/10

Dell said yesterday that contrary to recent rumors, the computer maker has no plans to move its factories or to exit the China market.

A March 24 report by the Hindustan Times had quoted Indian prime minister Manmohan Singh as saying that Dell would shut down its China business and shift its services to India. The report claimed that Dell chairman and CEO Michael Dell had told Singh that Dell had purchased USD 25 bln worth of equipment from China, and that the company hoped to transfer its business to "a safer environment" with more comprehensive legal protection to ensure the company's continued growth.
