UnionPay Begins Large Scale Mobile Payment Trials

Chinese banking network China UnionPay has announced that new generation mobile phone payment services have already entered large scale trials, with testing progressing in Shanghai, Shandong, Ningbo, Hunan, Sichuan, and Shenzhen. China UnionPay is strongly pushing for merchant POS terminals that support China UnionPay cards to be modified to add support for contactless payment, and expects up to 100,000 merchants to implement contactless payment by the end of 2010.
