Rumor: Hurray to Target Mobile Reading
Sohu Tech, 3/12/10
According to internal sources at Chinese wireless value-added service provider Hurray (Nasdaq: HRAY), mobile reading has recently become the company's strategic focus, and Hurray is currently positioning itself within the mobile reading market through personnel acquisition and other means. By focusing on the mobile reading sector, Hurray is aiming to add another income source to its current digital music and wireless value added service business. Hurray's mobile reading service will source its content from Shanda Literature, the online literature business of parent company Shanda Interactive (Nasdaq: SNDA), thereby playing an important role in Shanda's overall literature strategy. In the mobile reading industry chain, Hurray will likely play the role of content provider, and will not compete against operators for user base.
In related news, senior media figure Gao Jianwei joined Hurray on March 1, becoming assistant director in charge of the company's wireless reader products division. He will report directly to Hurray acting CEO Qu Haibin. Since 1997, Gao Jianwei has been a senior reporter at the People's Daily's International Finance News, assistant chief editor at Business Times, and general manager of Sun Media Group's new media division.
