Chinese handset vendor Yulong has signed a memorandum of understanding with Taiwanese telecom operator Asia Pacific Telecom under which Yulong will become a strategic partner of Asia Pacific Telecom, and bring its Coolpad brand handsets to the Taiwan market. The two companies reportedly plan for Coolpad to gain a more than 30% share of Taiwan's CDMA2000 handset market within the coming five years.
The partnership model will rely on bulk purchases and exclusive retail rights for a number of low-, mid-, and high-end handsets ranging in price from RMB 800 to RMB 6,000. Asia Pacific Telecom will be responsible primarily for promoting Coolpad products, and for arranging priority rating for Coolpad handsets in network access testing. The two companies will also cooperate in new technologies and new services.
Asia Pacific Telecom will offer large talk-time subsidies for Coolpad handsets, and will partner with Coolpad for joint promotion of its flagship products through joint investment of more than RMB 10 mln in television, outdoor, and internet advertising.
