Telecom Operators Announce January 2010 Subscriber Totals

China's three main telecom operators have announced their subscriber totals for January 2010.
January saw the net addition of approximately 9.83 mln new mobile subscribers. China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) added almost 5.12 mln new mobile subscribers, pushing the operator's total mobile user base to nearly 527.4 mln, of which a total of nearly 3.90 mln subscribers used China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network services during the month.
China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) added 809,000 new GSM subs, bringing its total GSM user base to over 145.65 mln, and added 853,000 subscribers to its WCDMA 3G network, for a total of nearly 3.6 mln WCDMA users.
China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) added 3.05 mln CDMA subs, taking its total to 59.14 mln.
Of total new mobile subs added in January, China Mobile pulled back above the 50% mark to take 52%, bringing its share of China's total mobile user base to 71.68%.
China Telecom lost 1.9 mln fixed-line subs, reducing its total to approximately 186.7 mln, while China Unicom lost 0.3 mln fixed-line subs dropping its total to 102.5 mln.
China Telecom and Unicom enjoyed positive growth in broadband, with China Telecom adding 790,000 new broadband subs to reach approximately 54.3 mln, and China Unicom adding 965,000 to reach over 39.5 mln.
