Win@Giant Releases 2009 Annual Report
Sohu IT, 1/20/10
Chinese online game developer and operator Giant Interactive (NYSE: GA) has issued its first annual report on the Win@Giant online game incubation plan. The report states that nine companies joined the Win@Giant plan in 2009, and investments through the plan will double in 2010, fueling further expansion. Giant Interactive expressed enthusiasm about investing in newly emerging browser and mobile games.
Win@Giant established partnerships with four game development teams in the second half of 2009. Two domestic firms received incubation funds, while games were licensed from two overseas firms. The two incubator games were the 2D MMORPG Bao Lian Deng being developed by prominent developer Ge Zhihui, and SNS browser game Downtown from a team led by Ma Nian.
According to the report, the two licensed games are a 3D MMORPG from a Russian developer and a vertical scroller from a Korean team.
Win@Giant also purchased a stake in Shanghai-based WVAS software developer Mobile Embedded, which primarily develops mobile games.
Liu Wei, president of Giant Interactive, said that Win@Giant operated smoothly in 2009, with two games, My Sweetie and XT Online, entering public beta. Liu said that the four newly added games will launch this year.
