Hualu to Establish Online AV Platform
Southern Metropolitan News, 1/06/09
Li Di, GM for audiovisual electronics maker China Hualu Group's digital interactive entertainment division, has confirmed that his company has assembled a team tasked with opening an online platform. The platform will support online publication of Hualu film and television products, provide legal content for Hualu Blu-Ray players and supply content to Hualu game consoles.
A source within Hualu said that since restructuring in 2005, Hualu has focused on AV products such as AV terminals and digital home electronics. Hualu provides content such as TV dramas and films via the Internet, satellite TV and video discs. Hualu is opening the new online platform with the approval of China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC).
Liu Guanwei, GM of subsidiary Hualu Information Industry Co., Ltd., said Hualu Group holds shares in 19 companies in the AV industry, and aims, within the next 3 years, to become China's only domestic HD AV company boasting a fully integrated supply chain. The basic infrastructure of the supply chain is already complete, and the sale of domestically-produced complete products has begun. Hualu currently holds over 50% of China's domestic Blu-Ray market.
Li added that Hualu has invested more in copyrighted content than on broadband or other technological elements of the platform.
