China Unicom UniStore to Begin Internal Tests

While China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) subsidiary Shanghai Unicom was constructing a prototype app store, in October 2009 Heilongjiang Unicom also established an app store working group made up of platform construction, product R&D, channel development, and market operations personnel. Both regions' prototype app store projects are nearing completion, and may well enter internal testing under the parent company by the end of the month.
The China Unicom app store will initially offer free downloads, and then transition to a paid download model for some applications at a later stage. Revenue share arrangements have not yet been revealed, but Unicom has not ruled out the possibility of adopting a similar model to other existing app stores.
