D.Phone Handset Trade-In Spurs New Year Sales
Beijing Evening News, 1/05/10
According to statistics from Chinese handset retailer D.Phone, benefiting from its "Old for New" handset trade-in promotion, handset sales volumes during the New Year holiday were 50% higher than the previous year. 3G handset sales accounted for 30% of sales, and were also 30% higher than 3G handset sales during the first three days of the 2009 National Day holiday in October, with over 10,000 units sold in three days, of which TD-SCDMA handsets accounted for up to 50%.
D.Phone VP and Beijing GM Qi Feng said that due to the "Old for New" trade-in promotions offered by retailers, including D.Phone, Gome (0493.HK), Suning (002024.SZ), and Dazhong, handset prices throughout Beijing were approximately 15% lower than during the same period in the previous year. Of the over 30,000 handsets D.Phone sold during the three-day holiday, over 70% of purchasers participated in the trade-in program.
