MIIT Starts Next Round of TD-LTE Testing

China Business News, 12/29/09

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has announced that its 10-week long test of TD-LTE technology has been completed. ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Huawei, Motorola, and Datang will be the first manufacturers to take part in the next testing stage. According to an official from MIIT's testing organization, these tests will involve a comprehensive check of the basic functionality and properties of each manufacturer's TD-LTE system equipment. According to Cao Shumin, vice director of MIIT's China Academy of Telecommunication Research (CATR), the TD-LTE testing plan will be completed in three stages. The first stage is proof-of-concept testing, the second stage R&D technology testing, and the third stage large-scale testing. The testing is expected to be complete in the second half of 2010.
