MIIT Announces November 2009 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its November 2009 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:
Telecom operating revenues were RMB 72.6 bln (USD 10.6 bln), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 792.96 bln (USD 116.1 bln), up 3.8% over the same 11-month period of 2008. Core services accounted for RMB 769.2 bln of the cumulative total, up 3.6% YoY. Capital expenditure for the month came to 44.9 bln (USD 6.6 bln), bringing the year-to-date total to RMB 277.3 bln (USD 40.6 bln), a 28.5% year-on-year increase.
Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 5.9 mln in November, with mobile subscribers growing by approximately 9.0 mln to over 738.6 mln, and fixed-line subscribers dropping by 3.1 mln to approximately 318.3 mln. Broken down by traditional fixed-line and PHS, the PHS subscriber base declined by more than 2.3 mln subs to 48.9 mln, while traditional (i.e. non-PHS) fixed-line subscribers decreased by 789,000 to 269.4 mln.
A total of over 703.96 bln SMS messages were sent during the first 11 months of 2009, a 10.3 % increase YoY.
Broadband added 1.2 mln new registered users in November to reach a total of 102.1 mln nationwide. In contrast, dial-up lost another 179,000 users, lowering the total dial-up user base to 8.8 mln.
