China Telecom IM Launches Cross-Network Messaging

China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) E-Surfing Live instant messenger client has launched cross-network SMS services, allowing users to send short messages to China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) customers.
Sources within related China Telecom operational departments revealed that the target audience for the E-Surfing Live service is increasingly shifting toward businesspeople and students, and thus the service's primary functionality focuses on business and entertainment. In addition to offering instant messaging functionality between clients on handsets, PCs, and MSN Messenger, E-Surfing Live's high definition online video platform provides access to more than 80 mainstream television stations, 5,593 television series, and more than 300 classic movies.
