Chinese electronics manufacturer Hisense (600060.SH) will release the E3, its first 3G OPhone, next month. The E3 comes with China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Mobile Broadcast Business Management System (MBBMS), which allows for CMMB mobile phone TV service, and has Wi-Fi/WAPI functionality.
The handset will be priced at approximately RMB 4,000. The E3 has not yet been added to China Mobile's rebate scheme, but according to Hisense representatives, the company is hoping the E3 will be included in the scheme by the time it goes on sale next month.
The representative said that Hisense is planning two OPhone handsets next year, with the specifications and market positioning of the second handset to be determined later, after seeing how the E3 performs on the market.
