China Mobile May Receive Extra 120 MHz Test Spectrum
CCTime, 12/07/09
China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) vice president Lu Xiangdong has said that, at the same time China Mobile's TD-SCDMA was awarded 50 MHz of additional spectrum, it also received 120 MHz of experimental spectrum.
A source from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology's (MIIT) Radio Administration Bureau confirmed that China Mobile had been awarded the extra 50 MHz, which lies between 2.33GHz and 2.38GHz, and is primarily reserved for TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE follow-on development. The source added that a final confirmation regarding the extra 50 MHz had only just been made, and that the MIIT has yet to make an official announcement.
However, regarding the 120MHz of extra test spectrum, the source said that the MIIT was still in discussion and had not yet reached a decision.
Unlike most spectrum awarded to wireless operators, test spectrum is generally allocated to an operator for test use, for a period of approximately one year, and no longer than two years, after which it is returned to the Ministry.
