Shanda Games Q3 2009 Profit Up 39% YoY
Shanda Games, 12/01/09
Chinese online game developer and operator Shanda Games (Nasdaq: GAME) has announced its unaudited consolidated financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2009, with net revenues reaching RMB 1.27 bln (USD 186.3 mln), up 45% YoY and 10% over Q2 2009.
Net income for the quarter came to RMB 366.6 mln (USD 53.7 mln), up 39% YoY and 1.1% QoQ.
Revenue from MMORPGs increased 53% YoY and 9% QoQ to RMB 1.18 bln (USD 172.9 mln). The sequential increase in MMORPG revenues was primarily driven by the continued growth of existing games as well as newly launched games in the third quarter of 2009. Revenue from casual games decreased 11% YoY, but increased 21% QoQ to RMB 87.4 mln (USD 12.8 mln). The year-over-year decline was primarily due to the fact that Shanda introduced major content updates in Q3 2008 to one of its significant advanced casual games that attracted substantial user interest. The quarter-over-quarter increase was driven by strong seasonality related to students' summer holidays in the third quarter.
Active paying accounts (APA) for MMORPGs increased 6% QoQ to RMB 9.06 mln. Average monthly revenue per active paying account (ARPU) for MMORPGs increased 4% QoQ to RMB 43.4. APA for casual games increased 5% QoQ to 1.21 mln. ARPU for casual games increased 15% QoQ to RMB 24.1.
Other revenues in Q3 2009 decreased 46.1% YoY and 41.4% QoQ to RMB 4.1 mln (USD 0.6 mln).
