China Announces New Fee Structure for CMMB Service
Sina Tech, 11/27/09
China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting (CMMB) operator China Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has announced new fee standards for its Jingcai-branded CMMB mobile television service. CBC will now offer 4 payment options: RMB 12 for 1 month, RMB 72 for six months, RMB 144 for one year (or RMB 120 if paid upfront), or RMB 452 for three years (or RMB 300 if paid upfront).
The new fee structure will first go into effect in 202 cities in Tianjin, Shandong, Yunnan, Beijing, Hainan, and Jilin. By January 1, 2010, CBC expects the fee structure to be unified nationwide. Shanghai, which was the first city to launch commercial CMMB service, will temporarily hold off from adopting the new fee structure. Shanghai's current CMMB fees are RMB 20 per month, or RMB 200 per year.
CBC has signed framework agreements with 27 provinces, and has begun official trial operations with provincial-level subsidiaries in 15 provinces. More than 1,000 handheld television terminal models are currently on the market.
