Giant Interactive Q3 2009 Net Profit Up 48% YoY
PR Newswire, 11/25/09
Chinese online game developer and operator Giant Interactive (NYSE: GA) has announced its unaudited financial results for Q3 2009, with net revenues reaching RMB 290.2 mln, up 9.4% year-on-year and down 20.3% quarter-on-quarter.
Net income for the quarter came to RMB 197.7 mln, up 47.5% YoY and down 14.7% QoQ.
Revenue from online games totaled RMB 287.5 mln, up 8.8% YoY and down 20.4% QoQ. The sequential drop was due to the cancellation of certain in-game monetization features, such as "Treasure Box." The year-on-year increase was attributed to the recovery of ZT Online following Giant's strategic decision to adjust its monetization structure in mid-2008.
The company reported the following performance metrics:
- Active Paying Accounts ("APA") for online games in Q3 2009 reached 1.1 mln, up 18.3% YoY, but down 7.9% QoQ.
- Average Revenue Per User ("ARPU") for online games was RMB 259.4, up 8.1% YoY and 13.5% QoQ.
- Average Concurrent Users ("ACU") for online games was 426,000, down 21.6% YoY and 6% QoQ.
- Peak Concurrent Users ("PCU") for online games was 1.28 mln, down 18.9% YoY and 11.1% QoQ.
Giant chairman and CEO Shi Yuzhu said that while revenue and user levels for the ZT Online series decreased due to Giant's decision to cancel the Treasure Box feature, the company expects new expansion packs and updates will support continued growth.
