CR-Nielsen: China's Oct Internet Advertising Up 49% YoY

Internet traffic monitoring firm CR-Nielsen has released its October 2009 report on the Chinese online display advertising market. According to the report, the Chinese online display ad market was worth RMB 1.69 bln in October, up 49% year-on-year but down 4.2% month-on-month. September saw 8,771 advertising campaigns by 2,837 advertisers using 20,477 advertisements. These numbers represent month-on-month declines of 9%, 6%, and 19.2%, respectively; and year-on-year increases of 29.8%, 23.7%, and 35.6%, respectively.
Automobiles, apparel, and computers and electronics were the top online advertising industries. Spending on apparel advertisements was up 40.4% month-on-month, while spending on automobiles and computers and electronics dropped from their September levels by 17.9% and 20.7%, respectively.
Chinese B2C mail-order e-commerce site operator Mecoxlane, Beijing-based matchmaking website Jiayuan, and Chinese online recruitment firm Zhaopin were the three largest online advertisers, spending approximately RMB 39 mln, 34 mln, and 34 mln, respectively.
