Chinese Telecom Operators Announce October Subscriber Totals

China Mobile and China Telecom have announced their subscriber totals for October 2009.
China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) total GSM user base grew by 5.1 mln to reach 513.5 mln in October, with nearly 2.31 mln subscribers using China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network services. China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) added almost 3.1 mln CDMA subs, taking its total to nearly 49.9 mln. Of total new subs added in October, China Mobile took 56%, dropping its share of China's total mobile user base from 72.84% at the end of September to 72.63% at the end of October.
China Telecom lost almost 1.5 mln fixed-line subs, reducing its total to approximately 192.9 mln, and added 700,000 new broadband subs to reach approximately 52.2 mln.
Editor's Note: China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) announced its new subscriber totals for October 2009 yesterday, adding 801,000 new GSM subscribers for a total of nearly 143.6 mln, dropping 947,000 fixed-line subscribers for a total of 160.2 mln, and adding 539,000 broadband subscribers for a total of nearly 38 mln. In October, a total of nearly 1.02 mln subscribers used China Unicom's 3G services.
