Shi Hai, founder and chairman of Suzhou-based online game developer Snail Game, said in an interview with a Taiwanese journalist yesterday that his current visit to Taiwan is a scouting trip to investigate the local investment environment in preparation for establishing a Taiwanese subsidiary. Shi revealed that his company plans to invest RMB 20-30 mln initially in establishing a subsidiary in Taiwan, and to expand its market presence through acquisitions after one to two years of local operations. Its acquisition targets in Taiwan will primarily be operators, rather than developers, as Snail will continue to develop its own R&D team.
Snail Game's growth in Taiwan will happen over the course of four stages - first, establish sales agent relationships through its partners; second, establish a Taiwanese subsidiary; third, expand through local recruitment; fourth, increase its territory in the Taiwanese market through acquisitions.
Snail had previously partnered with Taiwanese game company Insrea Game Center in 2007, and received the licenses to six of Insrea's gaming products in 2009.
