Guangdong Mobile, Suning Cut Handset Prices 20%

The local Guangdong subsidiaries of both consumer electronics and home appliance retailer Suning (002024.SZ) and China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) have announced that the two companies have combined resources to target the 3G market. Their short term goal is to reduce the base price of 3G handsets in Guangzhou by 20%. Customers will also receive prepaid calling subsidies of between RMB 500 and RMB 1,800 after subscribing to 3G services.
Gu Wei, director of operations for Suning's south China region management headquarters, provided an initial list of products offered by Suning during the promotion. The list included more than 20 3G products and 30 new smartphone models from manufacturers including Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, and Dopod.
