Chinese Ministry Releases New Notice on Illegal Game Content

China's Ministry of Culture released its Seventh Notification on the Handling of Illegal Game Content today, and called on cultural bureaus in all provinces and regions and cultural market law enforcement bureaus to investigate and punish violators accordingly.
PPLive and other enterprises using the Internet for the dissemination of vulgar and low-class content are to be investigated and punished. Beijing-based gaming company SGPlay.com.cn and seven other entities are named as being suspected of operating and promoting games that are vulgar, violent, or promote gambling. Shanghai-based web robot company Incesoft and 27 other enterprises were named for unauthorized operation of internet cultural activities. Tianjin-based Forugame.com and four other companies were named for providing imported 'cultural products' without the approval of the MoC. An unauthorized operator of private servers for the MMORPG Aion and 29 other companies were named for illegal provision of private gaming servers. 30 companies were named for providing illegal hacks and cheat codes for online games. In addition, Guangzhou-based gaming portal Duowan.com and 52 other companies were named for having begun unauthorized operation of domestic online games without creating files with the necessary authorities.
The Ministry of Culture called on cultural bureaus and cultural market law enforcement bureaus to step up investigation, regulation, and punitive efforts within the next month, to actively cooperate with communications authorities, and to penalize companies and entities acting in violation of regulations - shutting down websites providing illegal games, and requiring internet cafes and other internet access service venues to remove or block offending websites and products.
