China Unicom Releases WCDMA Network Test Results

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has released the results of a survey of its WCDMA network's signal quality and coverage in the 77 cities to which the network has been deployed. China Unicom conducted the survey in three stages between August 31 and September 18 in 55 major and 22 secondary cities nationwide.
The survey included both road tests and call tests, and checked the quality of voice calls, video calls, HSPA, and other services.
30 cities - 18 major cities and 12 secondary cities - meet China Unicom's ideal standards. 19 cities have good WCMDA network quality, 17 have average quality, and the remaining 11 have poor quality.
Chinese telecom equipment manufacturers ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) and Huawei, as well as Swedish telecom equipment manufacturer Ericsson, participated in the survey. 10 of the 14 cities inspected by ZTE met ideal standards (71.4%), as did 52% of those inspected by Huawei and 27% of those inspected by Ericsson.
Of the 18 major cities that reached ideal standards, provincial capitals and independently planned cities included Jinan, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Ningbo, Xi'an, Dalian, Guangzhou, Lhasa, and Haining. Major provincial cities included Jinhua, Tangshan, and Quanzhou.
Beihai, Jining, Huizhou, Langfang, Yingkou, Ganzhou, and Shaoxing were among the secondary cities that met ideal standards.
In addition, Qingdao, Xiamen, Nanchang, Qinhuangdao, Wuhan, Qingdao, Guilin, Liuzhou, Tianjin, and Chongqing were among the 19 cities found to have good WCDMA network quality.
