Huawei Symantec Provides Data Backup for Taobao

Netease Tech, 10/26/09

Huawei Symantec, a joint venture between Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Huawei and security and anti-virus software maker Symantec, has announced that its high-end N8500 network access storage (NAS) product is being used by Chinese online B2C and C2C e-commerce company Taobao for a high capacity website data storage project. Huawei Symantec won the contract in March, and brought the system online in the middle of June. A contract between the two companies was officially signed at the beginning of August.

Taobao's high capacity website data storage project aims to unify the backup of core transaction data generated by its more than 100 operations systems. The system's total capacity is of petabyte scale (one petabyte = 1,024 terabytes, and one terabyte = 1,024 gigabytes), and can store one to two years of complete site backups.
