China National Power Standard to Boost Flat-Panel TV Industry
Securities Times, 10/23/09
The China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI) revealed on October 22 that it is currently in the process of drafting the section of the "Methods of Measuring Power Consumption of Audiovisual and Related Equipment" standard pertaining to television products, which is expected to be beneficial in boosting the energy-saving flat-panel TV industry. Under the new standard, "average power consumption" will replace the traditional "rated power consumption" in the national standard. More than a dozen companies, including Panasonic, Sony, Changhong (600839.SH), Hisense (600060.SH), Sharp, and Skyworth (0751.HK), are participating in the drafting of the new standards.
"Average power consumption" refers to the average of power consumption values tested during a given period of television viewing. "Rated power consumption" refers to the power consumption of a television displaying a static image.
