A source at Tencent (0700.HK) third-party payment service Tenpay revealed that Tenpay has won in China Unicom's (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) bidding for online payment services. In the near future, Unicom subscribers will be able to use Tenpay to recharge their phones via Unicom's online service center and apply for Unicom's online value-added services, and to purchase recharge cards, mobile handsets, and 3G data cards from Unicom's online store. Unicom will also use Tenpay's accounting system to implement e-billing services between online service centers nationwide and provincial subsidiaries.
A source at Tenpay said that in addition to their cooperation on payment channels, Tencent and Tenpay will partner with Unicom in a range of areas, including Tencent's wireless services and QQ clients, allowing Unicom subscribers to connect their Unicom account with their QQ account and to check Unicom account balance and pay subscription fees, among a planned range of joint services, through their QQ account's "My e-Wallet" feature.
