DVBCN, 10/16/09
Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer Shenzhen Coship Electronics (002052.SZ) has released a "three networks in one" 3G video phone, the Coship E89 EV-DO smartphone. The smartphone boasts functionality to achieve network convergence, as it can communicate with TV set-top boxes to act as a remote control or to transfer images from the phone to the TV, and can also integrate with home or office closed circuit security systems. In the future, Coship's handsets will be able to interact with vehicle electronics, home appliances, and smart communications terminals.
The phone targets high-end professional users, and features a 532MHz processor, 256MB of RAM, and runs Windows CE 6.0. Its web browser was developed by Japan's ACCESS Technologies. The phone will run any applications developed for China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) E-Surfing platform. It also features a GPS navigation system developed jointly by Coship and South Korea's SK Telecom, and a client terminal system and cloud application platform developed independently by Coship.
Coship also announced its mobile video blue water strategy, which will focus on creating network convergence-based products centered around 3G telecommunications networks, using 3G smartphones to integrate with Coship's chain of video products. Coship hopes to realize interactivity between set-top boxes, television broadcast content centers, security monitors, automotive electronics, netbooks, and other clients, and to provide an end-to-end mobile video solution.
