Shanghai Telecom IPTV Users Reach 850,000

GM Zhu Bin of Shanghai Telecom's IPTV Operations Center revealed on September 27 that Shanghai is now home to 850,000 IPTV subscribers, with 70% of Shanghai IPTV subscribers active.
Zhu said the Shanghai IPTV platform currently offers five major categories of content: basic digital TV services including live broadcasts, replay, and time-shifting functionality; dedicated topical services with video content provided by Shanghai Media Group (SMG), including a "News Bar," a dedicated National Day content feed, a dedicated 2010 World Expo news feed, and others; video on demand services, represented by PPV services, which currently receive 200,000 to 300,000 subscriber views daily, and are expected to bring in nearly RMB 10 mln in revenues by the end of the year; entertainment services, such as games and karaoke, which currently receive nearly 50,000 subscriber views daily; and value-added services, including those which China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) is making special efforts to promote this year, health, education, and shopping, which are also expected to bring in revenues in excess of RMB 10 mln.
