Rumor: Tencent to Buy Out SNS Game Happy Farm

Sohu IT, 10/12/09

An industry source has revealed that Chinese internet value-added services provider Tencent (0700.HK) has reached an agreement with SNS game developer Five Minutes to acquire its popular SNS game "Happy Farm" for a one-time payment rumored to be in the millions of Chinese yuan.

When asked about the deal with Tencent, Five Minutes declined to discuss specifics, but said "if you want to understand it as a one-time purchase, that's fine." Tencent has not yet commented on the matter.

The majority of revenues from "Happy Farm" currently come from Tencent's platform and Facebook. Licensing revenues from other SNS sites, including Oak Pacific's Renren.com and Kaixin.com, amount to less than 20% of total revenues for the game.
