China Establishes Working Group for M2M Internet Standardization
Sina Tech, 9/14/09
The Standardization Administration of China (SAC) recently approved the establishment of a sensor network standards working group under the China National Information Technology Standardization Technical Committee. The working group brings together institutions involved in research and application of sensor networks, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), to expand standardization in the field and to participate in international standardization efforts.
A source at China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed that an initial framework of Chinese sensor network system standards has been developed, many proposals from which have already been accepted by the International Standards Organization (ISO). Sensor networks have been included as a major research focus in China's medium to long-range science and technology development plan for 2006-2020, as well as for next-generation broadband wireless network projects.
Sensor networks are also known internationally as Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Internet, or "Internet Of Things."
