Sina Tech, 9/02/09
Beijing-based online game developer and operator Linekong Entertainment has officially launched its 3D turn-based MMORPG Hero with a coalition of online operators. Linekong will team up with five major platforms, namely online search firm Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), P2P online video service and download software developer Xunlei, media player developer Baofeng, security software developer Qihoo 360 and online gaming company Chinagames to promote the historical-themed game.
Over the next two months, the five partners will successively release the game on their platforms, and use a variety of tactics including advertising and virtual currency incentives to promote the game to their respective users.
Linekong said the five operators have 500 mln visitors each day. Linekong CEO Wang Feng said the coalition reaches over 80% of Chinese Internet users, including half of online households.
Editor's Note: The coalition partners will market the game for free to their respective users by means of advertising, email, search rankings, download recommendations and user guides.
Regarding revenue sharing, one Linekong source said the matter is a trade secret, but would vary according to the particular game and partner revenue goals. In matters of game operations, Linekong may hold either a large or small share of responsibility depending on the partner.
