MIIT Drafts Policy on M2M Internet

China Electronics News, 9/01/09

Chief Engineer Zhu Hongren of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said recently that Chinese authorities are currently investing great efforts in promoting development of and research into the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Internet, adding that the MIIT and relevant organs are currently drafting policy measures that will support the development of the M2M Internet.

The M2M Internet refers to networks consisting of and often self-configured by equipment transmitting and sensing data via a range of methods including RFID tags, infrared sensors, GPS systems, and laser scanners, among other methods, with the goal of enabling the equipment and appliances to connect to one another through the Internet for ease of detection and administration.
