China Unicom Officially Unveils iPhone
Sina Tech, 8/28/09
China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) and Apple jointly announced today that the two companies have reached a multi-year China iPhone deal. China Unicom chairman and CEO Chang Xiaobing said that 3G and 3GS iPhone models will hit the market in Q4 2009.
Editor's Note: China Unicom revealed it would use overseas business models as a reference and subsidize the iPhone's retail price. The iPhone has already received a domestic network access permit, allowing the smartphone to be sold legally in China over the next three years. Chang added that Unicom had procured iPhone handsets at a relatively low price as part of the agreement with Apple, allowing Unicom to offer a competitive retail price, but the two companies have yet to finalize a revenue sharing plan.
