MIIT Announces July 2009 Telecom Statistics

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released its July 2009 telecom industry statistics. The figures for the month were as follows:
Telecom operating revenues were RMB 71.9 bln (USD 10.5 bln), bringing the cumulative year-to-date total to RMB 491.1 bln (USD 71.9 bln), up 2.7% over the same 7-month period of 2008. Core business services accounted for RMB 477.5 bln of the cumulative total, up 2.6% YoY. Capital expenditure for the month came to 19.86 bln (USD 2.91 bln), bringing the year-to-date total to RMB 149.0 bln (USD 21.8 bln), a 13.7% year-on-year increase.
Mobile communications network revenue reached RMB 283.4 bln, up 11% YoY and accounting for 59.3% of core business revenue. Fixed line services recorded RMB 92 bln in revenues, down 13.4% YoY and accounting for 17.2% of core business revenues. Digital communication network revenues totaled RMB 57 bln, up 5.8% YoY and accounting for 11.9% of total core revenues.
Total telephone subscribers saw a net increase of 5.5 mln in July, with mobile subscribers growing by approximately 7.5 mln to over 700 mln, and fixed line subscribers dropping by 1.98 mln. A total of over 445.4 bln SMS messages were sent during the first seven months of 2009, a 10.8% increase YoY.
Broadband added 1.9 mln new registered users in July for a 7-month cumulative increase of 12.6 mln to reach a total of 95.4 mln nationwide.
