Best Tone Estimates 2009 Revenues of RMB 7.5 Bln

China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) subsidiary Best Tone Information Service is confident it will meet RMB 7.5 bln in revenues for 2009, according to general manager Wang Wei. By the end of June, the Best Tone brand had recorded RMB 3.3 bln in revenues. Best Tone's 2008 revenues grew 44% to nearly RMB 5 bln according to China Telecom's last annual report.
Wang further revealed that Best Tone has begun promoting a new service called "Best Tone Apps" in Beijing and Shanghai that integrates various Best Tone products. The service currently comes preinstalled on over 20 customized handsets, including the Motorola A1800, the Coolpad N900, Huawei's C7600 and Dopod's S900C. "Best Tone Apps" includes a mobile navigation tool covering 493 cities and 2,784 counties. The service will later be integrated with China Telecom's app store.
Wang also re-emphasized that Best Tone had started the trial commercial operation of its SMS-based "QuanNengSou" (OmniSearch) mobile search service from July 1. Based on the BREW platform, SMS-based OmniSearch integrates Best Tone's voice navigation, satellite positioning, and local area search services. The service is being promoted nationally throughout August, with China Telecom subscribers in all cities in China to be able to search for various types of information via SMS query by the end of September.
